Targeted Citizens

“My friend told me to call Israel the ’48 lands while in Gaza.  Here’s one of many reasons why, and why a one-state struggle is the right(er) struggle.” — Max Ajl

Targeted Citizens, written, directed, produced, and edited by Rachel Leah Jones for Adalah, surveys discrimination against Palestinian citizens in Israel.  With the participation of Dr. Yousef Jabareen and Dr. Khaled Abu Asbeh, as well as Adalah Attorneys Sawsan Zaher, Abeer Baker, and Hassan Jabareen, the film addresses inequality in land and housing, employment, education, and civil and political rights.  These expert interviews are intercut with street interviews conducted by Palestinian comic duo Shamas-Nahas and punctuated by the hard-hitting rhymes of Palestinian rap trio DAM.  DAM’s song “Targeted Citizens,” written and recorded especially for Adalah and the film, tells it like it is without missing a beat.
