People’s Assembly in Cancún

Pablo Solón, Bolivia’s Ambassador to the United Nations: To the Via Campesina protesters, to social movements, we can tell you: What you’re doing is key because we, Bolivia, the ALBA countries, are not going to be able to change the reality of these negotiations if the people of the whole world don’t raise their consciousness, don’t mobilize, and don’t organize to change the course of these negotiations in order to have an agreement to save the life of the world, of the people, and not to have a new “Cancúnhagen.”

Luiz Zarref, MST Brazil: We are marching as part of “Thousand Cancúns,” which are taking place all over the world — marches and actions of people to say that people have a position against the commodification of nature, against the carbon market, against the false solutions of capitalism.  So, we are in the streets to declare that people have alternatives: peasant agriculture, energy sovereignty, food sovereignty.  They are the true solutions to climate change.
