On Sunday, Venezuelan social leaders concluded the national plenary of the Constituent Process of Indigenous Peoples. From Diego Ibarra Square in Caracas, they raised their voices to the world, demanding peace and respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty.
The main event became a demonstration of unity, where attendees–representatives of Venezuela’s 34 Indigenous peoples–formed the word “Peace” with lit candles and the national tricolor, symbolizing that the Bolivarian nation is a space of tranquility and cohesion.
During the gathering, Indigenous communities reaffirmed their historic commitment to defending their territory, their support for President Nicolas Maduro and their backing of the Bolivarian Revolution’s transformation project.
Over two days, the national plenary of the Indigenous Constituent Process served as a discussion space aimed at defining projects and self-governance policies for Venezuela’s Indigenous peoples.

The text reads, “From Plaza Diego Ibarra in Caracas, the people send a message of light and hope! We form the word PEACE to reaffirm to the world that Venezuela is a territory of peace. Long live the Indigenous peoples and the brotherhood of our Abya Yala! Long live peace! Long live Nicolas Maduro! Long live Chavez!”
Participation was extraordinary, surpassing all initial goals and demonstrating the strength of Indigenous Popular Power. Through the exchange of knowledge and collective decision-making, ancestral communities strengthened their role as decisive actors in national politics, showing that their role goes beyond being merely subjects of rights.
Indigenous participation was viewed as a fundamental driver for consolidating direct democracy, restoring the welfare state and advancing the major transformations the Bolivarian Revolution aims to achieve by 2030.
Indigenous Peoples Minister Clara Vidal said 2025 has been a “wonderful year” for Indigenous peoples due to their increased inclusion in the electoral system. Participatory processes led to the election of Indigenous council members in 69 municipalities and eight representatives to the National Assembly.
As a preparatory phase for this weekend’s national gathering, 81 municipal assemblies were held across 18 states, including two major meetings in the Guayana Esequiba region.
