Date: Tuesday, February 22, 2011
Time: 1 PM
Location: Ohio Statehouse, 1 Capitol Square, Columbus, OH
Thousands of workers and community members will pack the Statehouse again to tell lawmakers to reject the attack on Ohio’s middle class and vote NO on Senate Bill 5, a bill that would gut workers’ voice on the job in the hopes of dismantling unions in Ohio entirely.
Organize a Solidarity Action for Workers in Your Area
If you can’t make it to the Statehouse on Tuesday at 1PM or want to doing something before Tuesday to build energy, consider organizing a solidarity action in your area. See below for some ideas and how to make the most of your action.
Solidarity Action Ideas
- Leaflet your local grocery store, department store, or strip mall. Use the flier below to get the message out about Senate Bill 5.
- Hold a candlelight vigil to show your solidarity with workers.
- Organize a rally or other type of visible action in your downtown area or a spot with a lot of foot or street traffic.
- Put together a letter writing campaign against Senate Bill 5 and Kasich’s assault on working families and deliver the letters to your State Senator’s in-district office.
How to Make the Most of Your Solidarity Action
Call your local reporter. Tell them where you are going to be, what you’re doing, and that this action is in protest against Senate Bill 5 and Gov. Kasich and his allies’ attacks on the middle class.
Share Your Action Online: Capture your action on video and post it on YouTube or on your Flickr or Picasa page. Then share it on your Facebook and/or Twitter feeds. Also, don’t forget to post it on the Ohio AFL-CIO’s Facebook page.
