Columbia University has suspended 65 students for joining a pro-Palestine and anti-genocide protest inside the university’s main library on Wednesday, according to The Wall Street Journal.

A university official told the paper that the suspended students cannot take final exams or access campus facilities, except for student housing. Seniors will not be allowed to attend graduation.

Columbia also banned 33 other people from campus. They include students from other universities and Columbia alumni who took part in the protest.

The crackdown comes as Columbia negotiates with President Donald Trump’s administration over federal funding and university autonomy. Trump officials are pressuring the university and other institutions nationwide after last year’s wave of student-led protests against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Students across the U.S. have demanded a boycott of Israel and condemned the campaign of genocide in Gaza.
