Ever since I was five years old
my country has been at war,
invading this, invading that
my country fought endless wars.
How many of our soldiers,
our sailors, our airmen died?
How many more civilians who
had no more stake than cows
peaceful with beautiful eyes
only wanting to eat in their
pastures? Children sucking
their thumbs or playing tag
in a yard when a drone blasts
them to bloody mud? Wars
make money for some and waste
taxes that could do actual good.
My country has been at war
almost all my life. A president
ended it and the media screamed
and the wealthy objected. Losing,
winning belong to foot- and base-
ball games, soccer, not to nations.
This long bloody madness has ended.
Can we learn to love peace at last?
