La hemorragia de América
anclada en tu cuerpo
como una sangría en tu alma
cáncer de espanto
quebrada de llanto
canto de dolor y muerte
pasajeros cautiverios
secuestradas las almas
y en ti Puerto Rico se proyecta
resurge y reclama el faro de luz
negado por Halcones de la noche
tú como un rayo de sueños
aluvión de pasión patriótica
reclama y clama entre vientos
sentimientos y resistencia
rompieron nuestras alas y castigan tu cuerpo

The hemorrhage of America sunk deep in your body
like a bleeding in your soul
cancer of terror
ravine of lament
song of pain and death
captive migrants
kidnapped spirits
and in you Puerto Rico propels itself, rises again, and demands the light
denied by predators of the night
you as a ray of dreams
a torrent of patriotic passion
clamors and clamors again in the winds for
emotion and resistance,
airs of liberty, surges of sovereignty
and volcanoes of joy for your Puerto Rican people
you, a leaven of love and harmony
a project of alternative life
a drop of dream that splashes our lives
tic-tac indispensable to the heart of the country
Great and
Grand like the country dreamt by Martí
Pedro H. Ureña, Hostos, Albizu, Bolívar,
Toussaint, Sandino, Farabundo,
with the best of the brave nation
passion, sense of freedom
machete in hand
walls of dreams
against a hemorrhage of our native land
that is bled dry like your body today, with the complicity and active action of those who break our wings and punish your body
but who cannot stop the flight, the sacred message,
your eternal sacrifice for your country, Puerto Rico.
