Hope under Siege

Documentary photographers Aisha Mershani and Lisa Nessan capture resistance to Israeli occupation and current life in Palestine. The images in this diverse collection of photographs taken between 2002 and 2006 go beyond the headlines of the mainstream media toward a deeper understanding of reality on-the-ground in West Bank, Palestine.

Aisha Mershani

Aisha Mershani was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, to an American Jewish mother and Moroccan Muslim father. Since December 2003, Palestine/Israel has been the focus of her documentary photography. The expression of resistance in everyday life is the primary objective of her photographic work.

Lisa Nessan
Lisa Nessan

Lisa Nessan is a Jewish American activist and photographer from the Bay Area. Since September 2002, Lisa has conducted nonviolence trainings for international volunteers in the West Bank. She has worked with Israeli, Palestinian, and international organizations to facilitate support for Palestinian communities threatened by, and nonviolently resisting, Israeli military occupation and settler violence.
