    An order based on the Alien Enemies Act was issued by U.S. President Donald Trump to supposedly stop an invasion of the defunct Venezuelan criminal gang Tren de Aragua (TDA). This is the first time said law has been invoked since World War II, although it dates back to 1798.

    The 16th Summit of the BRICS organization is taking place this week in the Russian city of Kazan. President Nicolás Maduro was invited by the Russian president himself, Vladimir Putin, at the beginning of August, and is attending with a Venezuelan delegation.

    Controversy and contradictions ahead of the 9th Summit of the Americas

    The controversy began when U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian Nichols, made a statement on Colombian television channel NTN24 earlier in the month, saying that Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela were not welcome at the Summit, since these countries “do not adhere to the Democratic Charter of the Americas.”
