In continuation of the telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and Syria held on April 6, 2011, and on the eve of his trip to France for a G8 summit, Dmitry Medvedev stated the principled position of the Russian Federation regarding the events in Syria and around it. The Russian leader expressed the hope that the reforms launched by Mr Assad will be implemented by the Syrian leadership dynamically and in a broad dialogue with the Syrian public.
Mr Assad said the Syrian leadership is doing and will continue to do everything that guarantees the peaceful free expression of Syrian citizens’ will. At the same time, the Syrian leadership does not intend to allow the activities of radical and fundamentalist groups.
The President of Syria said the course of reforms is a principled choice, which he intends to implement consistently and dynamically.
